Why volunteer?
Volunteering with the Gay Community Center of Richmond helps the LGBT community. GCCR has invested over $2,000,000 in the LGBT community through grants to non-profits serving the LGBT community, donations to community groups and through the purchase, renovation and operation of the GCCR building. GCCR would not exist today without the contributions of our volunteers. Our volunteers are a valuable resource and enable us to give more back to the community!
What can you do to help?
Most volunteer opportunities require little or no experience, but we are always open to new suggestions. Here are a few of the opportunities we have available:
Special Events – we have a pool of volunteers who help us with special events such as gallery openings, concerts, programs, etc… Volunteers help with set-up and break down for the event, taking tickets, bartending and clean-up. We also have volunteers who help moderate events and activities.
Gallery Docents – We need a few volunteers to help in the GCCR Gallery. If you have an interest in art and interacting with the public, you can provide information to GCCR Gallery visitors. We would love to have the gallery staffed every afternoon from 12 pm – 6 pm.
Thrift Store – Volunteers help in all aspects of the thrift from receiving donations to stocking shelves and bagging purchases. Volunteers also help with cleaning and keeping the store neat. If you have customer service experience or retail experience, we would love your help. If you have experience recognizing collectible items and/or pricing antiques, we need your help.
Bingo – Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30 pm to 10:15 pm or Tuesday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. No experience needed! Brief Training required GREAT EXERCISE!!! Walk around the Bingo Hall while selling instant tickets. FREE MEAL during each session.
Data Entry – We need volunteers who don’t mind sitting at a computer for a couple hours helping us to update and maintain information databases about our donations.
