SAGE Central Virginia Coming Out Gala

175 people joined SAGE Central Virginia at the Virginia Historical Society on the evening of May 14th for our Coming Out Gala. The Gala was designed to introduce SAGE programs and services to Central Virginia and to celebrate our becoming the official affiliate of SAGE for Central Virginia.

At the Gala guests enjoyed delicious food provided by Cateraide, and learned about the issues facing GLBT seniors from Thelma Watson, Ph.D., Executive Director of Senior Connections and Patrick Johnson, Associate State Director of Multicultural Outreach with AARP Virginia. A musical interlude was provided by the Richmond Women’s Chorus under the direction of Tim Gillham.

Other speakers included the Honorable Jennifer McClellan, Member of the Virginia House of Delegates from the 71st District, Kathy Carmody, President of the GCCR Board of Directors, and Shannon Marling, Co-Chair of SAGE Central Virginia. A silent auction, coordinated by Steering Committee Jim Burns offered a variety of interesting and unusual items for attendees to bid on.

The SAGE Steering Committee and the Gay Community Center of Richmond are grateful to our sponsors who allowed us to host this benefit at no cost to the attendees.

if you ever need a very “Out ” person who lives 24-7 as a female to speak, let me know . I have been at the Laurels of Willow Creek both as a Patient and now as a volunteer. You would be suprised as to how folks perceive someone who is jus trying to be a conservative an normal individual ………
