Why support the Gay Community Center of Richmond? Since opening in 2007 our Community Center has hosted hundreds of events for thousands of people, including concerts, political forums, classes, support groups, discussion groups, trade shows, the Virginia Pride Festival and the Nazi Persecution of the Homosexuals 1933 – 1945 exhibit. We operate our Center as a community asset, and grant or offer reduced rates for use of our facility to non-profits that support our mission. In 2009 over 40 groups used the Community Center.
In addition to operating our Community Center, we also make financial grants and donations to other non-profits. Since 2000 we have given grants and donations totaling nearly $600,000 to LGBT supportive organizations and groups.
Some other reasons to support GCCR:
- GCCR was one of the founding members of the Central Virginia Rainbow Partnership, which seeks to improve collaberation and communication between Central Virginia LGBT organizations. The Central Virginia Rainbow Partnership now has over twenty member organizations.
- We are the home of the Gay Community Center of Richmond Gallery, which is the first gallery in Virginia dedicated to showcasing LGBT artists and those who portray our community in a positive light.
- This website, GayRichmond.com, includes an events calendar, links to gay-friendly local businesses, information about other area non-profits, and news about what’s happening for the LGBT community at our center and around Richmond. GayRichmond.com is viewed by thousands of people each month.
- We recently completed our Classroom, which can hold up to 25 people for classes, seminars, and other educational programming.
GCCR keeps the LGBT community informed through our twice-monthly electronic newsletter, that contains updated information about local events and news of interest to our community
GCCR operates as a 501 (c) 3 public charity. Approximately 50% of our revenue comes from Diversity Thrift and 35% comes from Diversity Bingo. The balance is largely met by the generous support of foundations, corporations and individuals like you.
Thank you for supporting GCCR.
