2010 Halloween Equality Bash for All Ages

Fun for everyone at the 2010 Halloween Bash! We’ll have games, door prizes, dancing, a costume contest and refreshments. This is an alcohol free event. Sponsored by MCC Richmond and the Gay Community Center of Richmond. The cost is $5.00 — students are admitted free with ID. Donations gladly accepted!

“Bent” at GCCR

The movie “Bent” will be shown today at 4:00 pm in the GCCR Classroom.

Max is gay and as such is sent to Dachau concentration camp under the Nazi regime. He tries to deny he is gay and gets a yellow label (the one for Jews) instead of pink (the one for gays). In camp he falls in love with his fellow prisoner Horst, who wears his pink label with pride . . .. Sunday, October 17th at 4:00 pm.

Gina DeLuca Brings “Blue Eyed Soul” to GCCR Tonight!

Mikey Rocha of Shockwave Magazine loves Gina’s latest CD “Blue Eyed Soul.” He says “It combines blues, soul, jazz, and even a little rock. Gina DeLuca, has a vast array of talent that can make this ‘metal comes first’ guy bow down and sing praise.” Gina sings about life, music, and relationships. DeLuca’s strongest attribute is her voice. She ranges from Billie Holliday, Norah Jones, and Amy Winehouse. If you’re into just having a rocking good ole time, or like hearing music that has something to say come down to GCCR and hear Gina DeLuca.

Cirque du Soleil  has returned to Washington, DC with its latest big top touring production, OVO.  OVO is now performing for a limited engagement under the trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) at The Plateau at National Harbor.

OVO is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects’ home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion.

A Celebration of the Life of Laird Petersen to be Held

Laird PetersonA Celebration of the Life of Laird Petersen will be held on Sunday, October 24, from 3 to 6 pm at 5000 E. Seminary Avenue in Richmond. Celebrate fall and the month of Halloween tonight! Join GCCR and the 2300 Club for cocktails and spooky Halloween atmosphere. Wear a mask and receive a free specialty cocktail! The party lasts all night long so bring your friends up to old Church Hill for an evening you’ll not forget.

Setting the Stage for SAGE: Senior Reception for the Holocaust Exhibit

A special reception for Seniors is being held Saturday at 3:00 pm in our Gallery to view the traveling exhibit from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This is the first in a series of social events especially for LGBT Seniors (Age 50+) and is part of our Setting the Stage for SAGE calendar.

SAGE is Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders, the oldest non-profit focused on meeting the needs of LGBT Seniors and advocating for positive images of seniors and laws to help protect seniors. GCCR is dedicated to supporting GLBT Seniors in the Central Virginia area and is seeking to establish a SAGE Affiliate here in Richmond. Learn more about SAGE by clicking here.
